Using Sleep - ThinkPad T420

I was told that using sleep instead of turning off my ThinkPad T420 will destroy it. Is this true? I find it convenient never to turn off the computer, but I don't want to cause any damage.

Re: Using Sleep - ThinkPad T420

I don't see how will it destroy the laptop unless the laptop did not enter sleep mode properly and is still running when you put it into a laptop bag thus causing the laptop to overheat. (happened to my friend's laptop before).

Personally I use hibernate, I enabled the "beeping" sound when the laptop goes into hibernate mode then when it stops beeping means the laptop is already in hibernate mode. Works everytime for me =)
