Wifi Network Issue with Lenovo T460

2017-12-08, 0:57 AM

I have been unable to connect to my NAS, a Synology DS216+II.  I've been working with ATT (Router), Synology (NAS), and Microsoft to try and figure out why I can't connect to my NAS while connected to my routers 2.4GHz radio, but can connect through the routers 5.0 GHz radio.  The problem is associated with only one computer a Lenovo T460.  My other computers a Lenovo T520 and a Lenovo T430 will connect to the NAS on either radio, as will my iPhone or ipad.  What I have discovered if I reset the Router (a ARRIS 5268AC - ATT Uverse) I can connect to the NAS via the 2.4GHz radio, if I switch to the 5.0GHz radio the connect works, but if I revert back to the 2.4 GHz radio again I can't reconnect to the NAS?

Any ideas?

JSR

When you try to re-connect to the 2.4ghz band can you actually connect & do you have internet access?  Trying to determine if the NAS is the only thing you can't connect to or if you can't connect back to the 2.4 ghz at all.

Going to dinner, but if you can connect to the 2.4 ghz band but just can't get access try disabling AP isolation on your ARRIS device (assuming you have access to do so) and enabling UPnP.

Let me know if that makes a difference.

Yes when I reconnect I have internet access.  Every thing seems to be ok except I can't reconnect to the NAS.  I've tried to ping the NAS  - nope.  But like I've sade if I reset the router and connect first to th e2.4 GHz router radio I can ping the NAS and have internet.  Connect to all my other computer etc.  But if I change to the 5GHz rauter I'm still good to go.  Reconnect to the 2.4 GHz radio I loose access to the NAS.  So I don't know if its the router or the Lenovo (software or hardware issue)

Yes I have access to the setting (router) but I will have to research disabling the AP?? and enabling UPnP.  Shouldn't be to difficult.

Was able to disable the AP.  But I don't think the ATT routers allow for UPnP. I'm assuming that is Universal Plug and play?  That is I could n't find anything about that in the manual.

Yea, if it was me I'd do a few things:

1) Delete the wireless network driver on the laptop under Device Manager & let it install the most recent Windows driver (not the Lenovo one) and see if that makes a difference.

If not,
2) Buy an external USB WiFi adapter to take out onboard NIC as being a potential cause

If not,
3) I never like using carrier-provided equipment so I'd recommend you have your own wireless AP anyway & disable WiFi on the ARRIS device. That will eliminate AT&T's config as a potential cause & give you more control over your WiFi.

Good luck, let me know what happens but I wouldn't have any more ideas other than those things.

I've tried #1 but will retry with intel's latest driver , I'll try #2 this weekend and I've been considering #3. thank you. Is the the USB wifi adapter to repalce my current wifi radio to see if that is the problem.  Meaning turn of my computers wifi and use the USB to see if that helps isolate the issue

The issue was with the router which has been replaced.  Thank you for the suggestions.
