Will the forthcoming T430u have a dock connector? Screen upgrade?

Does anybody know if the forthcoming T430u will have a dock connector on the bottom?  The only pictures of the T430 underside that I have seen are from CES last January, and while it didn't have it then, I'm wondering if this is something that was added since the X1 Carbon became the lightest, sleekest version instead of the T430u.

Also, the coverage I've seen on the T430u says it's just a 1368x768 display.  Will a 1600x900 option be available?  A 1368x768 display seems such a waste of 14" of screen space.

Lenovo's T430u page shows the Mini Dock Plus Series 3 with USB 3.0 as an option so, yes.

Also, the coverage I've seen on the T430u says it's just a 1368x768 display.  Will a 1600x900 option be available?

The media coverage also mentions "Up to 8GB RAM" and "Up to 1TB HDD." That too suggests that there's no upgrade to higher resolutions.

Well the dock connector would make it a unique Ultrabook in the marketplace, but if there isn't a higher resolution screen option, I won't be offering it to my staff.  When one of my staff wants light and portable and can make due with 1368x768 resolution, I order them a 12.5" X-series (presently X230).

Re: Will the forthcoming T430u have a dock connector? Screen upgrade?

I found a datasheet online here: http://shop.lenovo.com/ISS_Static/WW/EMEA/merchandising/pdf/en/T430u_DS_EN.pdf.  There is no mention of a dock connector so I don't believe there is one.  The screen is indeed only 1368x768 and it's 200 nits.  I dislike my T420s screen which is 230 nits enough...

On a positive note, the X1 Carbon lists the screen as being 1600x900 at 300 nits, which is a good boost in brightness over the T420s display.  It doesn't state IPS though which is too bad, and it lacks an Ethernet port which really makes the presense of Intel vPro kind of useless.

Re: Will the forthcoming T430u have a dock connector? Screen upgrade?

Hello all,

Unfortunately the T430u is not going to have a dock connector.

I will have to do some more research on an upgradeable screen.

The X1 Carbon does not come with an Ethernet port but a USB>Ethernet Dongle is always available.  Same with an HDMI cable or VGA, you can buy a dongle from USB to either VGA or HDMI.

Hope this helps,

Alex

Alex, could you please ask whoever looks after the T430u pages on Lenovo.com to remove the dock from the list of available accessories. Otherwise people might wrongly conclude that this system is dockable, as I did.

Link to the page is above. Screen print of the inaccuracy below.

Thanks.

Re: Will the forthcoming T430u have a dock connector? Screen upgrade?

I will see what I can do about fixing that little mix up on the support site.

About the graphics, I am sure the graphics for the integrated might be around the 1600x 900 but with the Discrete graphics I would think that the resolution will be significantly higher.  The T430u comes with Discrete graphics when you opt for the i5-3317m, i7-3517m, or the i3-3217m.  The graphics should be an option when customizing this computer.  Integrated should be an option when ordering the i5-3427m or the i5-3317m.

I hope this helps,

Alex

The X1 Carbon's screen has been reported as being very good for a TN screen. IPS uses more power, so perhaps Lenovo went with a higher quality TN screen.
