For educational purposes (study of SW architectures) I would like to install Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2012 directly on a ThinkPad T420s without having a host operating System and a virtual guest. The idea behind this is to get the best usage of the resources.
Unfortunately most of the built in hardware is not recognized. At least I would like to have drivers for the network adapters and the display adapter. Everything else is a nice to have. Does anyone of you have an idea where I could get drivers for the mentioned server operating systems and devices?
Any input is highly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.

I imagine it would mostly work. As for drivers, the trickiest would be the LAN. Luckily the T420s has the 82579LM. 82579V does not have drivers for Windows 2008R2.
First try the Lenovo website directly to install drivers. If that doesn't work, head straight for Intel. But in my experience, most drivers (but not all) for Desktop/Laptop based computers, still allow installation on Windows Server.
