"Media test failure, check cable" error (Lenovo T430)

2018-02-21, 20:57 PM

Hello,

I am getting the following error when I try to start my laptop. It stops at that point and Windows does not load.

"PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent"

Any clues whether this is a Hard Disk issue or a HD connector issue? or otherwise?

I am not a hardware expert so, is there a fairly easy way to check the status of my hard disk? (connect it externally to another laptop may be...?)

Thanks in advance!

Your answer is the one that I use:  connect the drive to another machine.

First, I would hit F10 and try to see what the built-in diagnostics think of the drive.  It is possible that a software error wiped out the partition table, etc.

Thanks for your inputs!
The drive does not show up in the built-in diagnostics when I hit F10.

Then either the drive is sick or the controller on the motherboard has died (There is no cable)  I would either try a different drive in that machine or try your existing drive in a different machine, depending on what I had.  In general, this error is usually a bad drive.
