Install EasyBCD (http://neosmart.net/downloads/software/EasyBCD/EasyBCD%202.0.2.exe) on the working XP, run it.

Use it to make the secondary drive bootable under Bootloader Setup. See if that gets the secondary drive to boot.

What will happen if I installed the XP bootloader to the MBR from the Option Bootloader Setup? .... Pls note that this 2nd HDD is used for everything what is no windows system .... so all kind of data, musicfiles, photo, etc. is stored here ...... will this get destroyed or unaccessible? And does it refer to the selected disk in the upper window or will it apply to the current HDD (c:\) ?

It doesn't destroy any data (unless you have a power or connection failure in the process, in which case the MBR might be corrupted, but unlikely) but I don't think you can tell it to apply it to D:.

Perhaps this?

I would have to use the original win-xp cd-rom .... this is tricky as I only have some recovery cd's from Lenovo which sometimes fail and sometimes not ... I thought it could be an easier way to boot from the 2nd hdd

To be honest, I'm not really sure what the issue is. This doesn't seem to be a ThinkPad specific issue. I'd recommend you try and hit up the XP subforum on MSFN. They generally have well-informed people there.
