Could you provide a bit of context and/or background ? Was this in an ad, a spec. sheet, or somewhere online?
The ThinkPad T420 can be configured with a SmartCard reader, could it be that?

OK, just saw where it was on Lenovo's site... Here's what I found.
I found a page where you can pick (and configure) a T420, starting from 4 configurations named as follow:
The only difference I could attribute to the "Smart Processing" wording could be that "ThinkPad T420 Laptop with Smart Processing" is almost exactly like the"ThinkPad T420 Laptop", excepted for two things (or three) :
It probably just mean a "standard" T420 (i.e. in baseline configuration) but with a better processor. They could have named it "ThinkPad T420 Laptop with Enhanced Processor", it would have been just the same. It's their choice of word to describe that slightly different configuration.
I don't know of any tangible option, or upgrade, that could be linked to the Smart Processing tag other than that.

Sorry to digress, but "visibly smart processing power" is an expression coined by Intel for their second-generation Core i3/i5/i7 (Sandy Bridge). vPro is all about management.
