received several new t410s laptops last week, some systems shutting off randomly and rebooting with
2100: HDD0 (hard disk drive) initialization error (1)
press ESC to continue
almost like disk is simply disconnecting...
we tried to update the intel x18 SSD firmware with latest from intel (yes disabled AHCI) and cant because of BIOS/mobo like such http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T410S-unable-to-update-firmware-of-the-Inte...
was waiting for lenovo to release an official update
anyone else getting the error 2100?

I assume the 2100 error does not coccur anymore when you changed SATA mode to "Compatibility" (from "AHCI") in the BIOS.
If you want to update the SSD firmware, you could temporarily move the SSD to another PC for the update.

i did swap to compat mode for the update, but not tried running the OS in compat mode only AHCI.
bios 1.09 does the same thing (was using 1.11)
i would try the upg from another machine, except these use the microSATA connector for power and i dont have any and im at a training conf for 6 days straight with a shiny new machine that BSODs and seems to happen when grabbing large files (then the hdd0 error after that).
can try switch to compat mode...also going to try and grab a micro connecter adapter at local store if i can make it before they close.

problem appears to be sata/ahci driver. the default one from windows (WHQL FTW right?)
upgraded to the lastest intel one (9.6.xx) and no more blue screens, BUT then it would go to black screen and keep running and not respond. use the one off lenovo site which was a 126.96.36.1992 and runs fine...crisis averted.
very strange the latest intel one was causing issues, which makes me wonder what lenovo has done on the system that could cause the issue. an intel chipset with intel SSD so intel drivers should work great...

I have the same error on my t410s, the thinkpad is only 2 weeks old the strange think is that I got the error only if the thinkpad is on the mini dock plus3. If the thinkpad is not docked at the moment I don't get the error. I have the docking station with the bigger ac.
The second think what I see it that my windows 7 is freeze and the hdd led is on. Has someone the same with windows?
Thanks for your reply.

I purchased an Intel X18-M (Original Lenovo P/N 45N7960 FRU41W0524). Trying to boot the system the screen shows:
2100: HDD0 (hard disk drive) initialization error (2)
press ESC to continue
To solve the problem I...
...flashed the newest Lenovo Firmware
...put SATA in compatible Mode
...created new partition
No way! Always the same problem!!!
I ran the following tests:
- ChristalDiskInfo didn't find any failure
- Intel SSD Toolbox didn't find any failure
- Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox found the following failure: (Fehlercode: WHD17-WXK)
- HDTune Pro: Reallocated Sector count 1 Warning!
What can I do now???
Does anybody know a solution?

You guys ever figure out a solution to this issue? I work for Intel so I get a nice little discount on SSDs but I am now sorta afraid to try to upgrade ThinkPad storage because I hear of this infamous 2100 error so much....
