t420s wireless radio switch doesn't switch on / broken

Hi,

I have a Lenovo t420s with dualboot win7 and Ubuntu. I never had any problems until now and could switch on/off my wireless and bluetooth connections via the Hardware Switch (right bottom left of the notebook) or via FN + F5. However, without any specific reason the wireless and bluetooth was switched off and the the system tells me that I have to switch on WIFI via the Wireless Radio Switch. However, although I can move it, it doesn't make any difference for the Switch.

I tried to reset the BIOS to Default and changed the network settings, and also rebooted several times. I won't work with any of the two systems. Any advice would be greatly welcomed!!!

Any suggestions?

Thanky so much!

Best, Ernest

Re: t420s wireless radio switch doesn't switch on / broken

Welcome to the forum.

It's possible that the switch is broken. IIRC the switch is installed on a small circuit board that connects via a ribbon cable. It's also possible that this cable is not making good contact. I would suggest that you examine the switch and board for these sorts of issues.

You can get detailed instructions for opening up the T420s and locating components in the Hardware and Maintenance Manual.

Re: t420s wireless radio switch doesn't switch on / broken

Hi,

Thank you very much. I tried my best and opened the notebook up as far as I could. I had a look on the cable and on the switch. Beside some dust I didn't see anthing problematic. But I am also not really a computer specialist. Anyways, I guess the wireless lan card or somthing like that is broken. I guess I'll buy one of these wireless USB sticks.

Anyway, thank you very much for your quick reply and great support!

best, Ernest
