t440s - Intel Dual Band Wireless N 7260 - low WiFi speed

2014-03-28, 20:58 PM

Guys,

I've got a problem with my t440s and Intel Dual Band Wireless N 7260.

I checked speedtest

Connection between my router (TP-LINK- "n" connection established) and my t440s is in amount of 144 mbits.

I've checked my t440s with speedtest.net and the highest download value  is 20 mbits. It seems to me like it is only b/g connection.

What should I do to receive hi speed (80mbits) connection?

All my older notebooks my WiFi works with speed of 80 mbits. So there is a problem with t440s :)

Help! :)

I think the driver is updated.

Ensure in the WLAN driver that Windows is not allowed to turn of the device to save energy and also check the Windows energy center: WLAN might be not on full speed to save energy.

I've checked in Intel Dual Band Wireless N-7260 driver settings - Energy management - Permission to disabled this device due to energy save is not on.

In Power Supply Profiles I set the Maximum performance in WiFi card settings. So I think it is not energy saving issue.

If your WAN connection isn't more than 20mbits, you won't bench more than 20mbits using speedtest.net

Col, My Internet connection (WAN) is 80 mbits (so it's not 20). I've got two laptops with "n" WiFi cards and speedtest shows from 40 (older one) to 80 mbits.
So this is funny that brand new Lenovo got only 20 mbits and two 2-3 y.o. laptops bench full speed of the Internet connection.

Where is the problem located? Where is the limitation? Intel drivers?? BIOS (not updated yet)?

Shall my WiFi card work default by n mode? Or should I somewhere switch it on?

T440s speedtest result

vs

iPad Mini Retina

http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/i/807286228

Down: 78.73 Mb/s, Up: 3.62 Mb/s

Where could I find the solution? I think there is no "n" mode enabled in my T440s.

Any advise, please?

I tried to solve this issue and found on Intel's forum that is common problem.

New Intel's Driver are available - version 17.0.0

Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers for Windows 7

It helps me a bit, because the bench speed rised to approx. 28 Mb/s. So probably this is software issue - Lenovo and Intel shall do sth about it!

I have the same 7260N as you and I can get over 170Mbps of actual speed with Windows 7 and 16.8.0.6 drivers from my university WiFi. Maybe Windows is limiting your speed with power management or that some antivirus / firewall are interfering with your WiFi speed:

Did you check with the new drivers?
I'll write to Intel. Maybe some advice will be given ;)
