t470 fan issue

2018-10-26, 21:07 PM

Hi All,

I just turned on my t470 today and after 10 minutes or so, the fan started blowing like crazy (100% fan speed).

When I checked the task manager it had about 4% - 6% cpu usage.
The air that gets blown out from the side wasn't hot (rather cold actually). The bottom of the laptop wasn't hot either, neither was the surface it was on.

I did a BIOS update (was already up to date as far as I know) and a power management update.

Problem however still persists.

It start immediately when the laptop is switched on (before windows loads).

I don't know what to do. Can anyone advice me?

I just booted again after uninstalling an update (just trying some things) and then got "fan error". It shut down the laptop. after a short wait I pushed the power button again and it just booted.

I tried resetting the BIOS to the defaults but it showed me a black screen with a lock. When I hit enter it says ok and get into the BIOS but I can't select the "reset to default" option

Kind regards,

J. Diks
