touchpad & trackpoint problems

[ Edited ]

Hello all,

I just got my Thinkpad T420 two weeks ago. Solid laptop overall, but recently I have some problems with my touchpad and trackpoint. There is a big movemental gap of the cursor when using trackpoint, and the touchpad is unusable. This happened once last week but then it disappeared after I disabled and then re-enabled trackpoint/touchpad, changing sensivity... Yesterday it happened again and this time it wont disappear after applying the same method. I tried updating the drivers, as well as reset BIOS (boot to BIOS -> F9 -> save) but none helped. I'm dualbooting windows 7 & arch linux, and the problem is present on both of the operating systems. This is really frustrating. Can someone please give me some suggestions what I could do to get rid of this annoying bug.

Thanks very much.

Re: touchpad & trackpoint problems

Not sure what a "movemental gap" is...

Maybe consider posting a video?

Re: touchpad & trackpoint problems

Thank you for your quick response.
When I use trackpoint, the cursor jumps instead of maintaining a smooth movement.

Re: touchpad & trackpoint problems

touchpad's buttons work (sometimes I have to hit more than one time though) but pointing and tapping don't

Re: touchpad & trackpoint problems

I removed ultranav drivers, installed synaptics drivers, and performed a BIOS update. No luck.
Anybody had the same issue? I'm considering a return.

Re: touchpad & trackpoint problems

I think at this rate, it may be a hardware defect.
