very slow loading of web pages and too slow downloads

we bought 2 thinkpads t420 in october at the same time but one is acting strangely..loading of web pages takes too long and downloading updates seem to take forever that is why we cannot install updates from microsoft and lenovo..i have tried restoring it to earlier restore point but it did not work..

Are you connected via ethernet or wifi?

i was using wi-fi and then tried the ethernet but yielded the same results..very slow loading of the web pages..

What if you try a different browser? What about a bootable Ubuntu live CD?

There could be several reasons

 

1) The network cards/port is faulty (unlikely as you mention tried with wifi and lan)

 

2) The DNS is set wrongly. Change the settings according to OpenDNS  (free)

 

3) Something is blocking the acknowledgement packet (ACK), so temporary disable the firewall at Window or maybe Norton may do the trick

 

4) Download a trial of cfosspeed (30 days) and see if it helps.
