ATI Mobility Fire GL T2

2009-01-23, 7:09 AM

Hi -

I have a T42p with the ATI Mobility Fire GL T2 video card.  I recently purchased an offbrand (AOC) 22" widescreen monitor.

If I try to set the screen resolution to anything lower than the native mode, 1680x1050, theaspect ratio is wrong and the screen image gets stretched across the display.

I would like to have a lower resolution that maintains the 16:10 ratio, but this monitor and/orgraphics card will not support it.

I cannot figure out if it is the AOC monitor or the video card that is causing the problem.

The AOC website gives very little info.

Does anyone know if the  ATI Mobility Fire GL T2 will support resolutions such as 1440x90?

If so, I can return this monitor for a Viewsonic monitor that does support 1440x900

Thanks in advance!!!

John W.

Hi -

Thank you very much.  I was able to install those drivers and I discovered  that it is the monitor which cannot support any resolutions lower than 1680x1050 which are still in the 16:10 ratio.

So... off to buy a new monitor.  I'm looking at an Acer X223Wbd 22" Widescreen LCD.  This time I plan to take my laptop and actually plug in in (if they let me).

Thanks for your help!!!

A word of advice don't get the Acer unit, it is one of the worst unit you can buy.... if you are looking for a fairly low cost 22 inch monitor, try a dell (you can get various online coupons), samsung (fairly good), asus (no frill but functional), benq (cheap and good for what it does)... my recommendation is to get an ASUS or Benq. If you look around a 24 inch Benq unit maybe only 30 USD more than a 22 inch unit, and it has a dedicated HDMI input.

If you are looking for really good 22 inch screens, then the one made by Lenovo is probably the best right now, while Dell also produce a similar screen but at 24 inch format with HDMI, DVI, Component input. But obviously these screens are higher end, and the price shows.
