BSOD running Skype Video Calls on a T61p under Vista Ultimate x64

2008-04-14, 16:30 PM
Is anyone else experiencing BSOD crashes while running a Video Call on Skype on a T61p running under 64bit Vista?

I have a 15.4" T61p, with the 570M Nvidia card, Intel Turbo Memory, and 4GB ram... the only time my machine experiences a BSOD crash is when in a video call in Skype.  I have tried this with two different video camera (a MS lifecam and a Logitech Quickcam) with all the latest drivers.  I have a suspicion it is some interaction between the audio drivers and Skype that may be causing the crashes... but can't be certain.  Sometimes it crashes after a couple of minutes, sometimes an hour into the call.

could this problem be related to the graphics BSOD and Computer Shutoffs we are see-ing in T61p's?

have you tried running any games like Bioshock, Crisis or Call of Duty 4 ?   The demo versions would be enough to tell if its the same thing.

also are both RAM slots used for your memory ?

you might want to see this thread:

what would be interesting is this is the first time I'm hearing it crash when using video in Skype.  I suppose not many persons make video calls.

Nope... I have read those two other BSOD threads THOROUGHLY, and as far as I can tell it is not related to those other crashes

While  I do have two sticks of memory, I can run Bioshock with no problems - with the right NVIDIA driver (Bioshock and Crysis freeze, but don't BSOD, with the latest Lenovo driver, but run fine with the Windows Update Nvidia driver).  I have stress tested the graphics extensively and have never had a BSOD crash running any 3-D application.

My BSOD ONLY occurs during a Skype call... and it has to be during a call - I have had Skype running idle for hours with no problems, and I have run the Skype video snapshot for hours with no problems... these tests are what lead me to believe it is related to the audio driver, as that should be the only difference between Skype with a call running and Skype with video snapshot running.

Glad to see that the fix for the Graphics/2 Dimm BSOD is in!

Anyone else running Skype on a 64bit Vista build?  I'd like to know if others aren't experiecing the same random BSOD crashes I've been seeing...

Hmmm I see my motherboard does have the part number listed that is associated with the 3D/2 Dimm BSOD issue...
