Blue Screen shut down

2008-05-07, 1:32 AM
T61 with XP Pro.  About every 40 hours or so I get a blue screen that shuts down my T61 so fast I can't read it.  It says soemthing about running a hardware diagnostic . . . check memory . . . .  Any suggestions for dealing with this greatly appreciated.

SP3 is available in the download center: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5b33b5a8-5e76-401f-be08-1e1555d4f3d4&DisplayLang=en

As for the blue screen - every 40 hours?  Do you leave your system on the whole time? Do you happen to have an advanced ultra bay battery with your system?  With my particular system, I had the same shut down issue because the driver for the ultrabay battery was not installed and caused a system hang.  However, as for the memory check thing - I'm not sure... try to do an extended memory test on boot to see if the system finds anything (this setting is available in the BIOS).

Well, I downloaded XP SP3 and have not had a blue screen experience since -- but it's only been 3 days.  Perhaps that was the magic solution.  I do appreciate the responses received and will keep my fingers crossed.  Thanks ya'll.
