Can anyone with a 14.1" standard T61/T61p comment on the off-center screen?

2008-02-23, 4:44 AM
I was looking at pictures of the T61 with the 4:3 aspect screen (looks like this may be the last of them, and I'm thinking of getting one before they're all gone), and for reasons I can't imagine the screen is off-center. Can anyone who has one comment on whether it makes the screen annoying to look at? It strikes me that it could be weird to look at a computer and have the screen off-center.

The offcentre screen is just to install the receiver for ultraconnect II attennas.... shouldn't really affect you, but i know having the screen bit off centre seems bit frustrating, when you are used to the old centered systems...

To be honest with you, I don't notice it at all, it's just like looking at any other 14" SXGA+ display. I can't understand all the "hype" that has been generated by some people, when I'm working I look at the screen and not the border.

No, I look at the screen not the surround.

the display on my 15.4" T61p is far more offset than the 14.1" standard and the slight shift has never bothered me.   then again, i come from the era of thinkpad users where the original displays were far more offset than any of the current models.

I actually didn't notice the offset until someone pointed it out.  It's not that bad, subtle.  And most of the time when I work on it, I'm not there checking out the bezel and construction.  All the focus is on the LCD...

The pictures I've seen made it look like it was really offset quite a bit. Good to know that it's not really an issue though. How much longer are they going to be offered with the 4:3 aspect display?

The offset screen is not really any issue at all, unless one habitually stares at a blank screen. I have been using T61 for 3 months. Not once have I been troubled by the offset. One doesn't really notice that.

I think the availability of the 4:3 ascpect ratio displays depends highly on the third party panel suppliers market and the customers themself. This means, those displays will be offered as long as there are enough 4:3 panel manufactors, which in turn can offer these TFT panel on needed quantities for Lenovo. And of course as long as there are enough customers who are still interested in 4:3 displays for Thinkpads.

It strikes me that continuing to offer a standard aspect display in the T series could be a selling point and a way to differentiate it from the wide-screen only competition. I've owned Compaq Armadas and Evos for the last 10 years, but would definately buy a Lenovo T-class machine instead of an HP/Compaq 6910p if the T offered a standard display.
