Dead pixel appearing randomly?

2009-06-04, 19:54 PM

I have a T61 that I haven't even been using for a month, and randomly a pixel will go bad on me, that is, it will go pure white no matter what. Sometimes it isn't even there. This changes everytime I restart the computer.

I don't understand because it changes location, indicating that it isn't a problem with the LCD screen itself. Is it a bad video card or driver software?

Thanks!

Is it a T61 with Nvidia chip, do you still have warranty?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community!

My understanding is that there was a bug in the UltraNav driver for some older units (T4x to R6x); not sure if it affects the T6x systems. Put the screen cursor over the white pixel and if it changes to an arrow, then that's the problem. You can clear the pixel by clicking or double-clicking (not sure which it is) the middle button.

Yeah, it's the T61 with Nvidia chip. Still under warranty.

The UltraNav idea is brilliant, I appreciate you bringing it up :) I tried exactly what you said, but no luck...the cursor didn't change to an arrow, or respond when I 'middle' clicked...

I would like to fix this myself as my understanding is Lenovo would want this shipped to them, and I can't afford to be without my laptop for so long...Thank you so much for your continued help!

Is there an updated video driver that I can install to fix the problem?

Some Nvidia chip have defects, if you don't fix it now, you will be liable for an entire motherboard change in the future.

Yikes, that's definitely what I didn't want to hear! Guess I'll have to contact Lenovo about this. Thanks for the heads up.

Don't panic.  If the "dead pixel" moves on the screen, it's probably not a hardware problem.  Does it disappear if you press the center mouse button?

Hi,

I think I have the same problem and as you said the pixels move with the screen.

for example when I'm using firefox and suddenly these coloured pixels appear and if I scroll the window they move with it.

I have a T500 with Ati 3650.

but when I switch to the intel onboard graphic card I don't have this problem.

I'm still under waranty for 3 more months should I contact lenovo or is there any solutions to this problem.

thank you
