Gaming on a Lenovo T60

2010-04-14, 7:46 AM

Hi all, first post :)

Ok - I've just purchased a T60 Core Duo 1.83, 2GB DDR2, ATI X1300, 14.1" 1400x1050 etc etc.

This 2nd hand purchase is actually an upgrade for me, as previously I was using a netbook for my 'on the go' computing.

I know that the X1300 is the weak link and I'm not expecting CoD MW2, Crysis or any other 'newly released' game to be playable or even install.

But it would be great to know what games people are able to play on these lappies. I'm thinking it'll handle stuff like UT2004, C&C Generals, etc - basically any game that was released till 2005 (albiet on low detail/resolution).

With that all in mind:  What games are people playing on this PC with 'playable' frames?

C&C General and Age of Empire 3 can be played on medium setting.

If you want more GPU power, you could try to get a Vidock (just google it) or DIY vidock.

Hello,

I am not familiar with your T60's performance characteristics, but perhaps Blizzard's World of Warcraft and Runic Games' Torchlight would be playable?  You would likely need to adjust some of the video settings.

Never actually played Warcraft 3, so might give it a go :) Not going to play WoW that's for sure, I've got a life :)

So any others? What about recent-ish games on low low detail? Do you think UT3 would be playable? I did get that running with a 8400GS with everything set to low.

Anyway, I'll be installing C&C Generals/Zero Hour and BF 1942 on here soon :)

Just incase anyone cares - I installed C&C 3 Demo and was surprised that it was very playable (details on low). I'm guessing I could easily turn up some of the details without any issues - definately didn't experience any slow-downs during 'action'.

I also installed C&C Generals, and at native 1400x1050 resolution the game is very nice, runs very smooth. Again, I set everything to low first, but even with most items set at medium the game is very smooth.

Haven't installed a FPS yet, though I'll chuck on UT3 or Doom3/Quake 4 on just to see what this rig can do.
