Help !! How to backup files?

2008-07-28, 22:16 PM

Hi ! I have a T61 with vista installed. I want to take backup of my files and settings. How should i do it ? I have heard of the Thinkvantage tool - Rescue and Recovery , but my laptop doesn't show it. i guess it has not been installed onto it.....though other tools like Client security soln. , Productivty Centre , Power manager are installed.

How can i get Rescue and recovery tool?

Also , how much space does the backup occupy .......i wanna know because i'll be using my HD for storing the backup.

P.S. : One more doubt......whats the speciality of the thinkvantage blue button ..... what does it do ?

I am new to laptops .... and am afraid of trying to use it ........ any form of assistance will be deeply appreciated !

Main ThinkVantage Tools page is here:   http://www.lenovo.com/thinkvantage

You can download R&R here:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-4Q2QAK.html

Also please read the link at the bottom of that page for R&R considerations, as well as the Deployment Guide for further information.

When you're in Windows, you can push the blue ThinkVantage button and that should launch the Productivity Center application.  It is a pop-up window that is a helper application.

When you first power on the ThinkPad, and you see the ThinkVantage splash screen message, if you push the blue ThinkVantage button at that time you will launch into the Rescue & Recovery pre-desktop area.  (Of course, after you have installed R&R).    The R&R pre-desktop area is like a windows pre-boot environment that you can boot to in case the operating system becomes unavailable or you can't boot to it.  From the R&R pre-desktop area you can Restore your system from one of your saved backups.
