Installing Windows: NV QFX 570m

2009-02-20, 3:39 AM

Hello. I'm doing a fresh installation of XP on my T61p. Everything's gone smoothly (relatively), but I've hit a rocky patch while getting my video card installed (NVidia Quadro FX 570m). I have the driver prepped and ready to go, but for some reason my laptop isn't recognising the card itself.

In the System device manager, instead of seeing the expected "Nvidia Quadro FX 570m" under display adapters I've got  "Video Controller (VGA Compatible)".

I'm not sure how to remedy this and get my system working. As is, I can barely even scroll around in Firefox...

Any input is appreciated!

It's not recognizing the card because the 570M is newer than Windows XP. Just proceed with the driver install.

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-67924.html

Download that and:

Installation instructions
  1. Start Windows XP, 2000 and logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Double-click the driver package to extract it to your hard drive.
    The default location is C:\DRIVERS\WIN\DISPLAY
  3. Click Start, then click Run...
  4. Specify "SETUP.EXE" with the full path name where you extracted the package in step 2, and click OK.
    Example: C:\DRIVERS\WIN\DISPLAY\SETUP.EXE
For unattended installation, type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\DISPLAY\SETUP -n -s and click OK.
  5. When the Welcome window appears, click Next.
  6. At the Software License Agreement screen, if you agree, click Yes.
  7. At the Select Components screen, click Express.
  8. At the Setup Complete screen, select Yes, I want to restart my computer now.
  9. Click Finish, then reboot the system.

Absurd. Spend all evening uninstalling and reinstalling the driver only to wake up to an install, reboot and perfect functionality.

Thanks.
