Is UltraBay Slim Blu Ray drive comming?

A few companies have 9.5 mm thick Blu-ray burners now. Does Lenovo have plans to provide and UltraBay Slim Blu-Ray drive option?

Hello,

I noticed that Lenovo has a ThinkPad Ultrabay Enhanced Blu-ray Burner, which is a 12.7mm part for the R61 series, so perhaps they will introduce a 9.5mm Ultrabay Slim part when they become more readily available.

Have you considered purchasing a bare 9.5mm drive to see if you can adapt it with the caddy and bezel from an existing Ultrabay Slim device to fit in your system?

if i could spell inevitable i would say it was inevitable..
the real question is when..
lenovo is a whole new ballgame from ibm and they seem to be more competitive..
blu-ray is the next standard..
so, 1 and 1 = blu-ray when the device is available..  :-)

I've thought about this myself. Wouldn't the 9mm BD drive have the same ATAPI IDE intrerface as an uncaddied multiburner? That sounds like an easy switch, but so many things aren't these days. :smileyvery-happy:

Hello,

I was thinking that they might have a SATA interface.  Unfortunately, I have not seen a high enough resolution photo of the drive to determine what sort of interface it has.
