Mac OS on T61p

2008-04-14, 17:23 PM
Well, apparently my friend has an install disc of Mac OS that is supposed to work on a regular PC and he wants me to try it on my T61p.  Has anyone tried this?  Sounds like a fun experiment (on a separate hard drive of course).

Wow, I would love to hear how that works.

Please keep us posted.

That would create a truly amazing machine! Heck, I would buy one in a heartbeat!

Good luck!

MacBook Pro, with an aluminum unibody enclosure **As of September 15, 2008, our company has completely switched to Apple. Having used ThinkPad products for over 10 years, we had desperately tried to find just one reason to continue using these products, to no avail. We are of the view that ThinkPads are no longer premium products. We wish you the best of luck with your ThinkPad! Happy computing…**

Well I was able to install Mac OS X Leopard tonight, but I didn't have much luck getting networking to work.  It was trippy though navigating Mac OS on my Thinkpad :)  I should post a picture.  I'll keep working at it.

Does Mac OS need to be updated with any Lenovo drivers? If so, did you have any challenges installing them?

I think that Im going to have to try this as a separate partition.

Very cool stuff!

Thanks for the updates!

Well so far all I have read on here is talk and no evidence, not to mention complete information on installation. So here is a link that offers resources on setting up the Mac OS on PCs. I have not tried it, but might consider it if you can run it with confindence.

I'm still looking into it, it has only been 3 days since I decided to try it lol...

Yes there are drivers and mods needed for it to work on the T61p.

I did successfully install iAtkos 1.5.1 a couple days ago, but I had no sound, and no network, and no 3d acceleration drivers.  Just simple framebuffer video drivers, which look fine but are not good for games, playing movies, etc.

There is some hope on the nvinject front, but as of right now there doesn't seem to be a good driver solution for the video card.

Anyway I'll keep looking into it but it looks like at the moment installing mac OS X on a T61p is only worthwhile as a curiosity or to show off, not very practical for other use.

Doesn't MacOS support T61p's graphics out of the box? I mean, MacBook Pro does have a GF 8600 in it, and the Quadro is effectively a GF 8600, no? It even runs with GF drivers...

Of course, these are just guesses  - I have yet to buy my T61p and I have nothing to do with MacBooks ;-).
