Need case screws for T61

2008-07-24, 22:09 PM

Where would I get replacement screws for the underside of my T61? I can no longer attach the hard drive access cover, and at least one other is missing as well.

Not quite sure why they're coming loose. I don't even carry it around a lot, and have never opened it up. Perhaps I should use some low strength Loctite®.

Thanks.

Thanks guys.

For someone else who might be coming this way, the part number for T61, R61, and R61i 14.1 inch widescreen laptops is 44C4809.

As it stands, the bag o' screws, shipping, and tax is near $25. The unit is still under warranty, so I might try calling tech support.

Update: Called tech support. Very gracious. Screws on their way (although his computer offered a different part number). He also suggested that the base might need to be replaced if the screws keep coming out.

IBM sold me a 'bag 'o screws' when I made this request to them.  It's a small bag of every screw, nut , and miscellanous fastener present on the machine.  Perhaps Lenovo does the same thing.

tm19,

as the other poster said, you can order a screw kit.  To get the part number, you just need to look at the Hardware Maintenance Manual (HMM) for your system.   Go to the main support page,  www.lenovo.com/support , and key in your machine type model number (MTM)  (for example 7732-X6U is the MTM of my R61).   Then on the left, click on User Guides & Manuals.  The next page should show you the links to the HMM.

Download the HMM, then lookup the part num.   I just did a find on the word screw.   You can even order parts online if you like:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-50278&sitestyle=lenovo

(use the drop-down box at the bottom of the page to order an FRU)
