No serial number on T61

2009-04-21, 19:25 PM

I recently bought a used t61 type 7665 off Ebay. I was adding ThinkVantage, and it asks for the type and model.  All I know is the type.

The sticker with the serial number was removed and the information was removed from BIOS.  I have the UUID number stored on BIOS.

Is there any other way to find out the serial number for this machine?  Is the information printed anywhere else on the laptop (like on the motherboard, etc?)

The lenovo web application appears to look at the BIOS for this information, so it can determine my system.

Thanks for you help.

Welcome to the forum!

Lenovo web application will automatically determine your machine type and serial if you're using Internet Explorer...go into "Support and Downloads" and click onto " automatically detect this system" then when you're done with that proceed into "warranty" and click onto "automatically detect warranty for this system", your serial number and warranty entitlement will be revealed.

As for BIOS, you can locate the model and serial on the main page, look for a line beginning with "7765", the next three characters in that row are the model designation (say AU1 or CTO) and the rest of that line is your machine's serial number.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

George

Re: No serial number on T61

On the main BIOS screen, there is no information next to machine serial number or type.

When I used the "automatically detect this system"  I got this:

Machine type/model:  Unkn-own

Serial number: Unknown

BIOS version: 7LETC5WW

Operating system: Windows 6.0 Professional

Operating system version: 6.00

Total memory:  2048 MB

Are there any other ways to get the serial number for this machine?

Hi,

You'd better test many times using "Automatically detect this system" tool. I am afraid that if the same result appears, obviously warranty is not entitled for the machine you bought because the serial number is not available. More, even you contact Lenovo Service Center, you have to provide machine type and serial number as well. So the best way, you could consult with Lenovo service center directly, bring the machine and let them check it for you.
