Replacement of backup battery

2008-05-04, 22:01 PM
Where can I purchase a backup battery? Can I install this myself? If not, where should I go for the installation?

Thanks,

Jack

Hello,

Which model of T-series ThinkPad do you have?  Knowing that may be helpful in determining which type of battery your notebook computer has and the associated replacement steps for it.

many e-stores will sell you replacement batteries, but they will cost you well over 100 dollars usually.  If it is strictly an emergency backup battery, looking into buying a used one off ebay wouldn't be a bad idea.   I am looking at prices for an extra battery for my T61, and the Lenovo site wants over 150, but i can find new ones on ebay for about 60+shipping, used for as little as 30

Thanks but I am not looking for a second battery but what's termed a backup battery that keeps the clock going if the laptop is unplugged and your regular battery is expended.

Any ideas?

The item you are looking for is typically referred to as a CMOS battery.  I''ve never had to replace one on a ThinkPad so I can't advise you on how easy/hard it is to do.... but they are usually user replaceable parts.

Cheers,

Here you go:

For the record, I'm not in any way affiliated with the seller nor have I bought such an item from them, this is given to you as guidance, not as a definitive recommendation.

And yes, you can replace it yourself.

Hope this helps.
Cheers,

George

Many thanks.

Now I just have to screw up my courage. Lenova says I can replace the part on a 14" T43p but not on a 15". Doesn't make much sense to me even though they offer directions in the manual.

You can replace it on any ThinkPad that I've ever owned, and that's a very high number, that presently includes a 15" T43p...I don't see where the issue would be.

Good luck.
Cheers,

George
