Reset hdd password?

2014-03-07, 15:51 PM

Hi everyone,

I have an old T60 that I plan to give to my mom to check email and look at pictures. The laptop works great (except for a dead screen, which I just replaced). I have a small isue, however. There is an hdd password that comes up when I start it. I know the password (that is not the problem), but I would like to remove it before I give it to my mom. When I go to BIOS, it says that the hdd and power on passwords are not enabled.

The drive is a Hitachi travelstar that I transfered from my now-dead x61. I may be misremembering, but I think I originally set the hdd password when the drive was in the x61. Nonetheless, since the password is disabled in BIOS on the T60, why does it keep on asking me for it?

Thank you.

Issue resolved. I stupidly didn't see that the hdd password was indeed enabled in BIOS, but for some reason I was looking at the next item (Password Recovery), which was disabled, and thought that it pertained to the hdd password. In any event, I have disabled it. I now just have the problem with chkdsk not running.
