T40 upgrade

Recently got a new (old) thinkpad T40, and trying to upgrade it as rather old stuff. After replacing some parts (dead battery, CMOS & speakers), I put maximum memory, Windows 7, larger HDD and waiting for a new (old) Intel M pentium 755 CPU 2,0 GHz. What is still puzzling me if the graphic card ? As no ATI graphic card for Windows 7 will work on a T40, it is necessary to use Windows XP drivers for that. The chipset for Ati radeon 9000 being the same than 7500, I am using such drivers with 3D acceleration, which works with version though some Ati mobility radeon 7500 versions works the same. However, I can notice some 9200, 9600 and 9800 Ati mobility radeon work also, some not, and some have new feature like extended graphic resolution, Ati catalyst versions from Windows XP are not working on Windows 7 and Ati catalyst from Windows 7 are not recognizing graphic card drivers from Windows XP ! But fortunately Ati tray tools from Windows XP remains compatible with Windows 7. And then my question is : how far can one get for resolution and graphic card drivers for T40, which seems to have quite a range of adaptativity, or what suitable graphic card is for T40 under Windows 7 ?

First, there is no graphics "card"..  There is a chip that is part of the motherboard so you are stuck with what you have.  Also, the T40 screen has an XGA screen which is 1024X768 resolution.  That is a physical limitation so there are no higher resolutions.
