T42 Network Card Problems - Need your help desperately..

2011-11-19, 21:00 PM

Greetings,

I am a new member in this zone. And I need the help of anyone who can help me :) .

I have a IBM Thinkpad T42 with Win XP Professional.

I have the issue with my Ethernet LAN -  Intel PRO /1000 MT Mobile Connection being incompatible with my wireless Intel PRO/ 2915 card  OR   11 a/b/g Mini PCI adapter; of course this causes either of my wireless cards(tried them individually) to not accept a DHCP address from my wireless n/w and giving the 'ipconfig' error in cmd.

I have searched many posts and found that people have resolved this issue by installing older drivers for Intel PRO /1000 MT Mobile Connection, like v7.2.17 or v 6.x. THe problem is that I am not able to find these drivers anywhere!!! I have searched Lenovo, Intel and many more forums etc but in vain.

Can anybody please upload the setup if they have, for v 7.2.17 or any older driver which has proven to resolve this issue for them? This problem is driving me crazy and am not able to find peace.

Gratitude for the time spent in reading my issue.

P.S.: I am not sure if I should have posted this request as a new topic or replied on one of the older ones. If this wasn't supposed to be a new post, my apologies to the moderators.

Hello GMAC-R60,

Actually that link takes me back to Intel's site again when I click on 'Visit External website'.

I have come across so many links like these which eventually take me to the Intel site or the Lenovo site, where the old driver is not available.

Before you start a "download orgy" you'd better download and burn on CD a Linux live CD (Ubuntu, Parted Magic) and try to establish a network connection unter Linux.

If Ethernet and Intel Wireless (Intel WLan is easier tham Atheros to configure under Linux)  work, there will be a Windows problem -otherwise a hardware damage will cause the problem.

Sometimes parts of the router firmware hang and a restart after power off will help.
