T43 - 2669-N27

2010-09-01, 10:37 AM

To this laptop it is recommended the RAM below. Is it possible to use for instance DDR2 PC5300 instead. What effects might  occur if not using the recommended RAM?

kenneth

  • PC2-4200 CL4 Non-Parity (NP) Double Data Rate Two (DDR2) Synchronous DRAM (SDRAM) SO-DIMM memory
  • 200-pin SO-DIMM with gold-plated leads
  • 256 MB, 512 MB, or 1 GB PC2-4200 CL4 NP DDR2 SDRAM SO-DIMM
  • Supports up to two 1GB SDRAM SO-DIMMs
  • Supports maximum memory up to 2GB

only DDR ram would work in the slot, DDR2 or DDR3 ram won't fit in the slot and even if they fit, there is an electrical connection mismatch which cause a shortcircuit of the motherboard.

So the answer to your question is no.

Please read the answer below.

sorry i misread the title (must be too tired) as T42 laptop.

Yes the T43 uses the DDR2 ram, it uses the 533 mhz variety, but the one i have at home uses the 667 mhz version ( 2 x 1 gigs setup), but downclocks to 533 mhz.

Just avoid the cheap Kingston Value one and you should be okay (although majority works okay, there are some batches that may not be compatible).

533 mhz ram variety is harder to find and costs more than the equivalent 667 mhz or the 800 mhz version (i haven't personally tried the 800 mhz and can't tell you how well they work).

Revised for clarity.

Jin Li

Hi lead_org,

thanks your right, I was just reading the manual, which states:
256-MB DDR2-533 SDRAM SO-DIMM (PC2-4200) card × 1 v

512-MB DDR2-533 SDRAM SO-DIMM (PC2-4200) card × 1 v

1-GB DDR2-533 SDRAM SO-DIMM (PC2-4200) card × 1

kind regards
Andreas

Hi lead_org,

I have 800mhz in one of my T43s, But it will only work in the slot on the bottom of the laptop. It will clock down to match the 533mhz in the first slot.

thanks for reporting back, so the 800 mhz ram doesn't work in the other slot?
