Re: T43 still can't clone hard disk and boot

Ah, sorry about that, they've changed the trial-policy. However, this one works (30 days free, fully functional trial), but it's a slight bit more hassle to get to download (you need to fill out a form):

Thanks!  I'll give that a try.

If it works, I'll BUY it!  Well, maybe not that version, but one of the products to show my support.

Now, do I have to force my target as drive C or can I just clone from C to E kind of thing?

Thanks.   The link works, but the software doesn't

I entered all my info, and they sent me a link with the download activitated.  The email even said I could use it 5 times in the next 3 days, and I got all excited.  Then when I tried to use it all disk writes are disabled...

Know what?  Can you guess how I feel about Paragon right now?  Would I ever recommend them?  I'm sure you can guess!

Wow! I called Paragon. First off, it took 3 calls, each over 2 minutes just to get through their terrible phone system. The first time, they sent me to a fax number. The second time to a 'pay or we won't answer number. The third time I finally got to support after a 2 minutes of 'hit this key' kind of thing, then spent time on hold with loud distorted music, finally being told they won't give out ANYTHING that works until you pay. The download link, after you give all your info, said I could use it 5 times in the next 3 days. BUT... That doesn't mean I can use the program 5 times. The link allows you to download a NON-FUNCTIONAL GUI download 5 times over 3 days. Uh, excuse me? Why the heck do they want to restrict a download of a non-functional gui?

I told him I was trying to decide which product to purchase and they were recommended, and then he politely badmouthed Acronis, saying it would cause more problems than I'd like.

I realize that a lot of people would rip them off, but I really did expect to get a functioning demo and was willing to pay if it worked. But now, if there's ANYTHING out there other than Paragon that I can buy and will work, I'll go with it.

Ok, rant off!!

Oh. I'm sorry about that, I wasn't aware they'd changed their policy that much.

If that's the case, I will no longer recommend using their software (unless, of course, one buys it straight off) - I had no problems, but then again, I tried it while the 30day full functionality trial versions were still offered. I guess they figured most private customers just use the trial-version and that's that.

Sorry you had trouble, and sorry I recommended a non-working software - it won't happen again, be sure of that.

Just kicking this to keep it alive.

I'm trying other software packages, still with no luck.

I did find newer versions of Acronis on eBay for cheap, as well as Paragon.  I may just buy them and try them.

try this.
burn a os on the disk.
then go over that with the clone.
why?
sometimes a new disk wont image a clone.
what os is this?
i seen disks before not take a image on a few sdds some years back.
i would toss them in something else do a os install and then pull it.
was a problem too in the win 7 beta.
we just pull it before the install finished then redo it on what we wanted it in.

sounds funky huh.
but it works.
some programs wont clone win 7.
was a huge complaint in the beta.
if the clone program is not new it wont.
samsung has a a clone on the site ,norton i think.
i dont clone much i like the feel of a new image that has no errors.
clones do have errors most of all with new disks.

i asume you made the drive bootable and active.
check the drive on another pc with windows and make sure all is well.
aslo read what the software says.
they may want raw.
they may not want raw.
depends and that a big deal with some could not clone win 7.
win 7 install to raw you do not format it.
thats how it is set up to work.
when people change that windows cant work because the file system dont jive with whats on the boot file and that makes it throw a error.

some guys get around this by just rebuilding the boot file and the clone will work after that.

those are 99% of all clone issues.
but in my world a new install is allways better because there no way file system mistakes can happen like wrong file size cluster etc.
on clones they do.
performance can drop right off a cliff.
i would just reinstall just use the old key and download the os.
no need to buy anything as long as you have a key.

Oops, sorry!  Totally missed the fact that I didn't put the OS in the original post.

It's Win XP  Professional for 1-2CPU

I think it's what the refurb people got in bulk as NFR to wipe the drives and have something to give out.
