Re: T43p not recognizing wireless adapter

2010-02-17, 1:50 AM

Hi Dennis,

Thanks for the update. It sounds like the XP WiFi controls can now reliably establish a connection at each boot? And that Access Connections is having trouble with the WiFi card's MAC address & radio status, among other things.

At this point it really does appear to me to be a software (specifically, Access Connections) problem. I'm no expert on AC - I typically remove it on my machines just to avoid the potential for problems like this. So you know my recommendation -- just uninstall AC and leave it off. :smileywink: But it seems that AC offers some features beyond the standard XP WiFi controls that you find useful. My simplistic advice then would be to remove AC, then re-install it. But I think you already did that? I dimly recall that there's some magic sequence in which to install the wireless driver, AC, and other supporting software to get AC to function properly. I don't remember the sequence, but you'll probably be able to find it by searching the forum. If that fails, I'd recommend starting a new thread in the ThinkVantage Technologies board, where it's more apt to get attention from an AC expert.

Good luck!

-Frank

Hi Frank,

Please post a link/URL to the TVT board,  so far I have not located it or the link to it.  I asume it on the forums.lenovo.com URL somewhere.

Thanks

Dennis

If you continue to have no joy with Access Connections, but need something beyond Windows' built-in network-switching capabilities, you could try using a third-party utiltity. Such as:

Netswitcher

I used this one back in my Windows NT days, and was quite pleased with it.

Mobile Net Switch

This one also looks good.

Here's a brief review (from December 2007) of the above two and a few other similar utilities.

Good luck,

Frank
