T60 CardBus and ExpressCard slots

2010-04-16, 16:31 PM

Hi,

Is it possible to use these slots simultaneously?

Also, how much space is there between the two slots? I own a Creative Audigy 2 ZS CardBus soundcard, and the external part of the card rises about 5mm above the internal surface (the part that slides in). Will this foul something protruding from the ExpressCard slot above it, or is there enough room?

Thanks for your help.

Re: T60 CardBus and ExpressCard slots

Hello,

Although it is not an identical model, I have a T61p with an ExpressCard SSD¹ in the top ExpressCard slot and a Mogo Mouse stored in the bottom CardBus slot.  The two devices do not physically interfere with each other and the slots are both 5mm high.  These two particular devices lie flush with their respective ports.

From looking at a photograph of the Creative Audigy 2 ZS CardBus soundcard, it appears that when it is plugged in its dongle will block access to the ExpressCard port.  If you have a fully internal ExpressCard (or one with a detachable dongle or flush cable connector) then this should not present a problem, other than needing to eject the CardBus device in order to get at the ExpressCard device.

Regards,

¹The ExpressCard interface is actually a combination PCIe x1 and USB 2.0 interface. "SSDs" like the one I have installed are actually just regular USB flash devices which have the right size and connector to fit into an ExpressCard slot. When installed, they only use the USB 2.0 interface and behave like any other USB flash drive.
