T60 is hot after installed windows 7

2010-04-03, 23:31 PM

I have one T60 with almost 3 years old (2316HKU). Just isntalled windows 7 and found the T60 is hot in the back. Sometime, can hear the fan run so often. Doesn't anyone know whether this model T60 can run windows 7?

There is no 2316-HKU products in existance from Lenovo or IBM. If you seriously do have a T60 or for that matter any Thinkpad product please look on the bottom for the model number and update your info.

Typo 2613.

USB-C: Just cos it fits don't mean it works.

Thanks for correcting typo. That is 2613HKU. This laptop can run windows 7 and don't see any performance issue. However, I notice the machine is become hoter than running with windows xp. I used on motherboard monitoring software and it said the cpu temp reached 58C. And the back of laptop is very hot after running windows 7 just for surfing several hours.

I worry about it may burn out motherboard.

Your unit does seem like it can support windows 7. The thing with NT6.x based systems is that they are hard drive intensive. They will repeatedly access the hard drive and on laptops that have the OS you will notice more heat. The exhaust fan is usually located at the left side closer to the rear. As a result of this you can commonly notice excessive heat at the rear or anywhere on the unit in general.

There are ways to reduce hard drive access by the OS but CT Quantum CCSvc. will not permit me to release those optimizations.

Hello,

Have you installed all of the device drivers and software from Lenovo for your ThinkPad T60 (model 2613-HKU)?  Sometimes, additional device drivers need to be installed to allow thermal sensors and power management in a computer to work accurately.  The easiest way I can think of to accomplish this would be to install the ThinkVantage System Update software from this page on Lenovo's support web site. It will detect your model's particular hardware and then download and instlal the appopriate software for your ThinkPad.
