T61 Intermittent LAN connectivity at boot-up, must manually renew IP address

2008-10-29, 13:50 PM

About 50% of the time I boot up my T61 laptop, it fails to automatically connect to my companies' wired LAN connection.  I must manually issue an "ipconfig /renew" or use the Vista "Detect and Repair" function (which also performs an ip address renew).  This resolves the problem, but it is a nuisance.

For some reason, at bootup, my computer does not consistently see the wired LAN connection and renew the DHCP address.  I suspect I have a network "auto detect" setting disabled or compromised.

This problem has occurred on and off for the last few months.

I have tried many things to resolve the issue, including the following:

- set Intel network card 82566MM "Wait to Link" setting to "On" (suggested in a forum)

- disable IPv6 (suggested in a forum)

- set DHCP broadcast flags in the registry (suggested in a forum)

- uninstall Access Connections (suggested in a forum)

- disabled all unessential programs that startup in msconfig

- returned the laptop to lenovo for a new motherboard

I've wasted alot of time trying to get this expensive Vista laptop to work like my old inexpensive Dell XP.

Any help would be appreciated.
