T61 Not Booting

2011-08-03, 19:56 PM

I am having major emergency and in full-out panic mode.

Got back from lunch and my T61 screen was black. Pushing spacebar and moving mouse did not wake. I used power button to shut down.

The computer will not power up. When I push the power button the green lights appear and it acts like it is about to boot up, then I get a series of 3 beeps. One long followed by two shorts (beeeep beep beep). That is it.

I have removed battery and let set for a while, reinserted battery and gotten the same result. I have not been able to get anything to show on monitor--just three beeps when I try to boot up.

I have T61 (7662CTO) with Windows 7.

Please help!

there are some youtube videos of people fixing it themselves but I would look on ebay or other places and find a motherboard without the nvidia GPU I've seen t61 MBs for $75. on ebay

According to document I found in knoledgebase, that series of beeps means this:

  • System board
  • LCD assembly
  • DIMM

What does this mean in terms of action steps?

I have reset the memory and tried booting with just one in different slots. Same result every time. Any suggestions on what to try next?

Okay. So, I am hosed.

What is my best course of action? How do I go about getting this one repaired?
