Re: Lenovo T61 display problem from startup

model number is depend on the specific feature of the laptop, but it does not mean that it is not compatible with the motherboard using intel GPU.

Re: Lenovo T61 display problem from startup

2010-09-10, 18:09 PM

Previously in this discussion, I advised customers who were experiencing a garbled display that was present in BIOS and on attached external displays to contact support.  Garbled displays that occur within Windows, but not in BIOS are most likely caused by corrupt video drivers. Please ensure you have updated your drivers to the latest version with those found on Lenovo's support site before contacting support. If you have experienced these symptoms on a T61 or T61p model system in BIOS, please contact support.  The support agent will be able to assist you with in warranty repairs, and in determining if additional coverage is available to you.

I'm marking this post as the solution to help others who may be joining this discussion late.   If you have trouble receiving support, please contact me via PM.   Please note that coverage also follows terms of international warranty - refer to model elligibility in your particular country (if you are now living in a different country than which the system was originally purchased)

UPDATE Jan 4, 2010

Previously, I have advised customers to contact service for assistance with the symptoms discussed here. In an effort to maintain customer satisfaction and loyalty, Lenovo has repaired a number of systems as post warranty exceptions. Lenovo will continue the post warranty support; however, with some revisions to the extended coverage effective December 31, 2010.

Customers who experience these symptoms on qualifying models that are no more than six months beyond expiration of warranty should continue to contact support for assistance. This additional coverage ends March 31, 2011.

Coverage beyond this date is available under the terms and conditions of extended warranty or maintenance agreements. Warranty extensions may be purchased for systems that are still within the base warranty period, and post warranty maintenance agreements may be purchased to provide coverage after base and extended warranty periods have expired. Extended warranties and maintenance agreements are a great way to ensure coverage for all the major system components.

Best regards,

Mark

blueshark,

If you have the 1 long and 2 short beep failure, and this repeats consistently on your system, then you can contact support now, in a country where your 7662 type system is elligible under IWS terms, or in the US if it was originally a US system.

I do not recommend trying to retrofit a different board than it came with, and that would not be a Lenovo recommended solution.   I'm not saying lead_org is wrong - I believe he's offering advice based on the questions being asked.

The Fan / Heatsinks are different on the intel and nvidia based boards, and it is possible that there could be some other minor mounting differences.   You would need to change more than just the board.

I re-read your posts here after replying to your PM, so I would recommend you think about contacting service.

Re: T61 Nvidia Quadro NVS 140M.. garbled display problem!

Eventually my T61 also starts having this problem. As some of the posts suggested, I called the customer service and the answer is that it may take $475 to $575 to repair, nonnegotiatable. The representative was quite indifferent even I was quite unpleasant. I spent over $900 about two and a half years ago on this laptop, for its reliability. Ironically, it lasts MUCH shorter than my previous toshiba satellite which was much cheaper, and didn't have major problem for 6 years. I would never buy any product from lenovo

SO you have the beeping problem? Try calling the service again and see what they say now.

Your other option is to get the post warranty warranty (thinkplus), and then get the laptop repaired once the warranty comes through, it is around 150 to 200 USD for a basic one year back to depot version. But call up first and see what the IBM service has to say this time.

Re: T61 Nvidia Quadro NVS 140M.. garbled display problem!

I have this same issue, and i want to call customer support, but i have a question first.

My laptop was overheating and having graphics issues, so I opened it up and cleaned the inside out, cleaned some dust out, and replaced the thermal compound with some arctic silver.

Is this going to void any chance at getting a free repair?

(fyi i do have a T61 with the quadro NVS 140M)

thanks ^_^

@progeny of internal energy and PV work.

there is a chance that the repair center may decline your warranty, but i think the chance of that is low, as this is a known defect.

2 million dollars? that is not even going to do much in terms of compensation.
