why not get a ultrabay hdd caddy? never seen a PCMCIA hdd before, even if they exist it would be expensive and slow.

Hello,

Probably your best bet for capacity is the Samsung SpinPoint M8 HN-M1010MBB hard disk drive, which is a 1TB 5400RPM 8MB cache SATA device in the standard 2.5", 9.5mm form-factor.  For speed, your best best is probably a 512GB SSD, in the standard 2.5", 9.5mm form-factor.  Crucial, Kingston, Samsung, Super Talent, and Transcend are among some of the companies I saw which offer SSDs in this capacity and form-factor.

You can also look into installing an ExpressCard-based SSD in the ThinkPad T61's ExpressCard slot.  The largest capacity that I am aware of is 96GB.  Please keep in mind that such devices are for storage only, not bootable and operate at slower speeds than other SSDs.

Regards,
