Re: T61 Support SATA II ?

2009-01-29, 20:30 PM

Really,

are there any changes with this matter, Mark ?

It's crisis outside and there are more important things to do,

but seems, as if 3 weeks should be enough time to figure out what to do next ,

if anything, or not ?

Sincerely.

Re: T61 Support SATA II ?

2009-02-02, 12:25 PM

Hey all!

Is there anything new yet about this matter? Here is intel matrix storage data from my drive:

OS Name: Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Ultimate
OS Version: 6.0.6001 Service Pack 1 Build 6001
System Name: T61P
System Manufacturer: LENOVO
System Model: 6460D8G
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU     T9300  @ 2.50GHz
BIOS Version/Date: LENOVO 7LETC4WW (2.24 ), 08/15/2008

Intel Serial ATA Controller: Intel(R) ICH8M SATA AHCI Controller
Number of Serial ATA ports: 2

Driver Version: 8.6.3.1004
Serial ATA Plug-In Version: 8.6.0.1007
Language Resource Version of the Serial ATA Plug-In: 8.6.0.1007
ISDI Library Version: 8.6.0.1007

Hard Drive 0
Status: Normal
Device Port: 0
Device Port Location: Internal
Current Serial ATA Transfer Mode: Generation 1
Model: G-Monster-V2 SSD 256GB
Serial Number: DC0109020E25B0035
Firmware: 0954
Native Command Queuing Support: No
Size: 234.3 GB

What worries me most is that "Generation 1" and no NCQ support. I contacted SSD manufacturer and the yguaranteed me that drive supports both SATA2 and NCQ. They also stated that NCQ gives quite a boost in performance due to optimized drive acces control and that I should use it if possible. I then tested SSD in desktop machine with Intel controler and results were as they should be (for at least 50% better). I'd at least like to see if there is any way to change Generation 1 to Generation 2 (which supports NCQ) with drivers. I'd also like to know if (and when) Lenovo plans to fix this issue and if this is even solvable with driver or bios update or will I need to send laptop back to lenovo. Please respond in time, because I'm considering to either sell SSD or to return laptop to the seller. I'm otherwise quite satisfied with this laptop (otherwise I wouldn't buy ssd for it), but this issue is quite a dissapointment. If specifications state SATA2 support, then there should be SATA2 support, don't you think?

Best regards,

Klemen

T61 Support SATA II SSD // Support closes ticket unresolved

2009-02-07, 2:56 AM

To our Lenovo moderators,

I have opened an incident with Lenovo/IBM to get this issue into an official channel.

The incident was closed after two days without contacting me.

Is this the way Lenovo wants to handle the SATA II issue ?

Thank you

Stefan

Hello,

simple question: is there a possibility to solve this problem (via BIOS Update or Software Update)??

If not, just answer NO. that's it.

Thanks a lot,

Alex

Hey Guys, Germany here.

In the German Thinkpad-Forum are a lot of people complaining about this issue and they all are not very satisfied with the way lenovo deals with this.

They all got a fast SSD and they can't use its speed capacity...

Probably we can get an answer if lenovo is working on that ?

I want there to be an option also. What's the point of an SSD when you can't use it fully! This is completly unfair, and we don't get what we paid for..

This is why Lenovo is loosing money and they are not trying to do anything about it.

I opened a new case and referred to the old one. Still have to talk to an engineer though.
