T61 XP SP3 will not hold Standby mode, falls down into Hibernation  after a few minutes.

While running SP2 before, it worked though.

Hi,

Only rarely one could expect to meet so much harmony and appreciation  on the vast   internet as in this very case while contemplating on your lines.

I am also sharing   your  idea borrowed from experience that  the best choice  ever  could be migrating towards newer  OS's only, with T61 it is really possible while my other notesbooks  T22, R30  would not allow to do so. My experience with X61s  suggests that  Win7  can well be run with only 2 gb ram. So, migrating towards Win7 would surely be the best ever solution  for my both T61 and R60 indeed. - Instead of vasting the time, let us enjoy marvellous books on philosophy of all centures along with red Southern wines... The Spengler's Law implies that the higher the level of technologies, the lower the level of cultures! - The general relativity being accepted, though.

PS. Although I do have the XP SP3 installation disk of my own, I am going to send you a PM;-)

Thanks for your lines.

However, revoking from Hibernation mode takes up more time!
In general energy supply tab Settings, there are indicated as set Standby choices only (checked).

I rarely use XP anymore but don't recall having this problem, but let me ask you a question for another reason. What is your model of T61 and what graphic system does it have?

Your model should be included in all support requests but I have a specific reason for asking that may be related to your situation.

@TuuS

It's a usual T61 model with 2gb ram onboard:

Mobile DualCore Intel Core 2 Duo T7100
Chipset: Intel i915GM/PM  (Intel Crestline GL960/GM965)
Adapter String    Mobile Intel(R) GMA X3100

Well, meanwhile I came across the following article that impressed me a lot:

http://fivepercent.us/2008/06/06/windows-xp-standby-and-hibernate-problems-solved-finally-i-hope/

Now, I consider the whole situation otherwise, anyway.

Firstly,   what we sometimes evaluate  as "normal"is not that way!  Thus, migrating from SP2 towards SP3 might have influenced  the situation positively, but  one just does not realize that.

Secondly,  any computer has in fact no permanent stable state, or behaviour, which is always changed while being transient.

I have 2 nearly the same replicas of T61, but their behaviour in this relation  is somewhat different.

Supposingly,  we should not strive for perfection if do not know  what is that in any particular case.

Last night, as my notebook downloaded a file (250 Mb), it fell neither into Standby nor HIbernation, thus it remained in an active state thereafter until this morning.  Who could know why.  However, as I tried  something to do, of no importance, it  did so (fell consequently into Standby, and then into  Hibernation.

Should I really strive for anything else?  What is perfection then?

The above article gives no assurance.

My  T61 XP SP3 will not hold Standby mode, falls down into Hibernation  after a few minutes, true.

But only if I put it to that manually.

While doing so on its own (automatically) ,it does it so, as it is set to do in Settings.

So, I feel puzzled indeed.

Hi,

My concern was with the type of graphic system you were using. If you had nVidia graphics you would be causing a lot of wear n tear on your Graphics Processor by allowing the machine to go in and out fo standby and/or hibernation.  The continuing changes in temps are very hard on the GPU, but the Intel X3100 is a tough chip and should be able to take it.

I have seen many people having odd behavior using XP with Standby and Hibernation on the T61 series. You can try removing and reinstalling Lenovo powr manager, microsoft's dotnet framework, and remove any related updates that were installed by microsoft through windows update and you may get it working properly, but your best bet is probably to reformat and install from a disc with SP3 integrated, then install only the needed drivers from lenovo, the version of dotnet required by lenovo software and only critical updates from microsoft, then you should have a properly working system, or you can take this moment to upgrade to a newer windows version, one that will continue to be supported by MS. Vista would be the most economical choice, it's really a good stable OS once you have it properly updated and many of these models came with a vista license, if not, they are available cheap, or you could go with windows Seven that works flawlessly on a T61 with the exception of the Ricoh card readers (if equipped) which require some tweaking. Windows 8 will also work, but it has some minor issues too and  isn't officially supported by T61.

ps. If you need a winXP setup disc with service pack 3, SATA, and most of the critical updates integrated, you can send me a PM and we can figure a way to get one to you.
