T61 and configuration of Bluetooth COM-port number

2010-07-05, 10:00 AM

Hi,

I have a T61 with XP SP3 and I have problems in defining my Bluetoooth COM-port

to be in range COM1-COM6 which is a requirement from my Bluetooth GPS device.

The system has defined it to COM16 and this COM-port number is too high for the GPS software.

Can someone help me?

Device manager, where you can see and choose normally the COM-port number does

not show any alternative options besides COM16.

Many thanks in advance!!

Do you have a bluetooth icon in the systray? If you rightclick that icon and select settings is there any settings for that bluetooth device where you can change the com port?

I don't have any com ports used by any bluetooth device and neither do i have any computer running XP anymore so cannot remember exactly, but unless i'm wrong it should normally be possible to change somewhere in the bluetooth settings.

Hi Gan,

Thanks!

I've already that and I can open Bluetooth properties and see properties for the BT port,

but the only portnumber available seems to be COM18.

When I connect my computer to the docking station, I can see that XP takes the docking station's

old-fashioned COM-port into use and that one can be defined as COM1 or COM2.

From the same list I can see that all other ports (from COM3 to COM17) are taken by USB,

which is why I need to find a way to free e.g. COM5 or COM6 for Bluetooth,

and this is what I cannot remember how to do

Hi Kim, I exactly have this question. Could you please let me know the answer if you have found it? Thanks. I want to pair with my OBDII meter which its software only understands COM1 to COM8 and I get assigned to COM19 automatically and have not been able to find a way to change it yet. Best, AL

Same problem here.  How do you change to a lower number COM port?
