Re: T61 fan became noisy since few weeks causeless

I cleared my fan and add WD-40 (lubricant) to fan shaft today. It works well now.

a possible solution: instead of using pressed air, you could try to use a vacuum which is more powerful to get the dust out.

The fan in my T61 was noisy for a long time, to the point where it disturbed others during meetings.  Under warranty, a guy came out and popped in a new fan assembly, and the noise went away.  It only took him 5-10 minutes.

i just replaced my 3 year-old t61's fan for $170 (USD), it's steep... :(

i had ignored the fan noises for a few months and i guess overheating forced it to state 'fan error', refusing to boot.

so for those who are hesitating to clean their fan, here's the price to pay (lit.)

Re: T61 fan became noisy since few weeks causeless

My T61's (7663) fan is now dying for weeks (it's the second time) and the T61 has still (on site) warranty.

Cleaning the fan with compressed air or tapping it doesn't help any more to "fix" the noise.
Can I call them now to replace the fan - or do I have to wait until a total fail and "Fan Error"?

Any of you have some experience in this matter?

just call up and tell them that your fan is failing, they should replace it under warranty.
