T61 hinge issue

2009-04-25, 20:50 PM

Hello peeps

Have a T61 with common slack hinge issue

Returned unit for repair under warrenty and unit was returned to me

The hinges seemed slightly better but not as good as expected, with the new hinges fitted (the new part number hinges) ie the supposed better hinges to resolve this issue.

Unit had also come back with a cracked palm rest

Unit once again returned and palm rest issue resolved

Should I send it back again for a second look at the hinges ??

Very unhappy it was sent back to me damaged and still with a slight slackness in the hinges

At the top edge of the screen there is about 15 / 20 mm of soft slack before any resistance is felt, once you go past the 15 / 20 mm slack it is nice a firm.

Am I being over sensitive about this ??

I bought a lenovo as I thought build quality was very important............. and I am a bit dissapointed (still) with the screen hinges.

Even though I have been told that the updated top spec hinges have been fitted I am sure I should not have to put up with this slackness in the hinge

So my question is.............. do I return it again with a note saying I want the hinges stiff and this slackness gone or am I flogging a dead horse with lenono with this one

Thanks in advance.................. maybe the lenovo guy on here can take up this issue and help resolve it

cheers

PS........... apart from the above my T61 is brill  :-)

I've noticed something with my Thinkpad. I had a T40p before and felt too that its hinges stayed firmer for a bit longer. But when I look around at the competition, I think the Thinkpad is still better. Then again, I'm used to Thinkpad's build construction and tend to not be so delicate in the way I handle them (as a college student, my thinkpad goes mobile every day of the week). So that too is why I'm still satisfied with its state. Any other laptop i feel would have fared worse by now.

There is several manufacturers that Lenovo for the hinges, there is a slight difference between them, but if you are unhappy you could talk to Lenovo service and see whether anything could be done.
