Here is a guide written by Mark Lenovo and myself, it's regarding CPU swap, but if you go down to the bottom, look at the "pdf guide", it's specifically made for replacing thermal paste.

http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T61-and-prior-T-series-ThinkPad/T61-CPU-swap-compatibilty-Merom-and-Penryn/ta-p/550533

What you want to get is "Artic Silver #5", you can find it on Ebay, or Amazon.com. Clean the old paste off your CPU and GPU, then clean them with a soft cloth and some Alcohol, don't use alcohol with scents or oils added, get pure, as strong as you can get.

Apply sparingly, only about the size of a grain of rice, then spread it across the chip. When you reinstall the heatsink, you want as little overspread as possible. to much paste and you can overheat, to little and you have the same problem. If your not comfortable doing this, then don't, find someone who is.

Regarding your temps, they aren't extremely high, but it's odd that your GPU is higher then your CPU. At this moment after many hours of use, my CPU is 63c, my GPU is 52c. If I run graphics intensive games/apps, my CPU will reach the low 80s and my fan will kick on high speed, the GPU rarely goes over 70, so if your readings are correct, you must have some bad contact on your GPU, but I suggest you uninstall that fan app and try thinkpad fan control (TPfancontrol.com). It's freeware, and when your temp gets high, set it to manual (speed 7) and they should cool down fast, if it doesn't, then your heatsink/fan isn't working as it should and if you have nVidia GPU, your in danger of frying your chip which means you'll need a new system board.

Good luck

Get the "direct link" to the image and click on the picture icon in your rich text editor above, click "from another site, then enter the link. However, only small pictures are allowed. I forget the exact size, but I think this one is ok....
