T61 type 6465-CTO : No Power at all. No A/C, No Batt

2012-05-18, 14:03 PM

I need a smart tech person's help here. This is a venerable T61 that has been as reliable as an Anvil since new, and "out of the blue" now cannot receive power.  No lights, no beeps, no indication of power at all either from battery or AC Adapter.

I am suspicious that it may have been plugged in during a storm but don't know for sure [though I do tech work this one is personal: it is my daughter's!!  she lives 160 miles away..]

This feels to me like a power supply, power board/inverter ... whatever it is supplying power on the motherboard.

Can someone give me direction here?  replace that FRU?  which?  or whole mboard?

thanks

C

Hi cognus,

As per issue description mentioned by you the issue seems to be with system board

The complete system board will be replaced and can be done from the Lenovo authorized service center.

Best Regards,

Tanuj

agreed. that seems to be consensus.  but how on earth did it get whacked?  it was little-used, just pristine in its current condition, except for this!

A power surge can surely burn out a board. There are fuses on the board, but they aren't serviceable. Someone who is very good at soldering could "piggyback" a good fuse overtop a burnt out one, but when one burns out it's usually for a reason and if it was a lightening strike that burnt out the fuse, then there is probably other damage. Easiest fix is a new board.
