Re: T61P Graphic problems--random shut down, BSOD, Crash

Is this problem happening with everyone. I was going to order the T61p tonight but after reading this I dont know if I'll ever order a thinkpad.

I was going to order one 2gig DIMM. and am afraid that even if it works fine when i get it, If i ever decide to put in more RAM I will get that problem.

I think Lenovo may have just lost a customer,

If I recieve a defective TP will it be replaced? And will it cost anything?

Hellbore got his entire computer replaced, I believe, but I'm about to send mine in to have my motherboard and RAM replaced. So long as your machine in under warranty, and your warranty covers repairs, you should be fine.

What are the chances of getting one of these faulty thinkpads?

And will it actually get fixed?

1.  Has Lenovo looked into the problem possibly be bad Motherboard Chipset drivers on this board and it may affect the memory controller or north bridge ?

2.  Is Intel aware of these problems we are experiencing?

3.  Also,  if the Lenovo guys who are reading this can verify that a new Revision of this motherboard has been released after October ?

4.  I would hope by now that Lenovo will make an official statement at least on their support site for T61p about this problem and state if you are working to resolve it or to return the thinkpad for repairs.   NO Official Statement up till now is not good public relations and displays poor support quality for customers.

5.  Do you send pickup boxes for repairs to countries outside the U.S.  ?   It is only fair since you product is sold all around the world.

Yes this is a mysterious issue and yes it is frustrating, but I don't see why people are so angry, all you have to do is contact Lenovo support and start the repairs process.  They will repair your machine, then when it's fixed you will be happy right?  No biggie.

Thinkp,

The issue is being worked, but as I suggested last week, many of the engineers have been out for the holidays.

Typically, "official" statements are made in the form of technical tips when the underlying cause of a problem is defined and a fix is provided.

This latest set of comments regarding speed step is very interesting, and it would be a helpful thing to know if this changes or eliminates the symptoms for everyone.  While certainly not the solution, this might be a valuable lead in determining the underlying cause.

This issue has not been defined to necessarily be a hardware fault, although the replacement of system boards through the warranty process is reported as resolving the situation by most if not all of the customers in this and other forum threads.

With regard to the T61p being sold around the world - service is available in the countries where the system was sold.  Members who have purchased in one country and traveled to another should consult the International Warranty Service page to determine the eligibility of their machine type and to find the list of support numbers for their respective countries.

The terms and conditions of the IWS are also available for review.     This issue is really no different than any other issue with regard to engaging warranty service while traveling.

Thanks for the response Mark.

I'll have a read through of the International Warranty details.

Cheers.

disable speedstep is not fix this issue.
problem still happen but you must run 3d app (games) about 30-60 minutes.
problem are randomly -> BSOD ( memory parities error ) , windows freeze but sound still going or computer power off.
i buy this machine about 4 months ( waiting and hope ). and don't have any solution for me.
i will send this expensive junk machine to lenovo for replace everything that they need to fix.
and return to use my old t42 (very very very stable).
:( so very unhappy with this junk machine, lenovo made T series so bad very very bad.
