Thinkp,

The issue is being worked, but as I suggested last week, many of the engineers have been out for the holidays.

Typically, "official" statements are made in the form of technical tips when the underlying cause of a problem is defined and a fix is provided.

This latest set of comments regarding speed step is very interesting, and it would be a helpful thing to know if this changes or eliminates the symptoms for everyone.  While certainly not the solution, this might be a valuable lead in determining the underlying cause.

This issue has not been defined to necessarily be a hardware fault, although the replacement of system boards through the warranty process is reported as resolving the situation by most if not all of the customers in this and other forum threads.

Mark's post shows that Lenovo do know and do care, unfortunately some things / solutions don't happen overnight. I'd bet that they have people working on this problem who have far far better knowledge of how a computer works as you or I do.

andyP - telling that "we are working on something" doesnt solve the issue, they could inform us on progress. but for now we stay uninformed, left alone with broken machines, and just like i said most of us can't afford time, sending the computer back to the service .. and please - never put a statement like " who have far far better knowledge of how a computer works as you" - because you don't know me or my knowledge status, the funny thing is, that i am an assembler and a very low level programmer.

Re: T61P Graphic problems--random shut down, BSOD, Crash

Just an update.

Ok, today, 3 of the 10 T61p my company ordered arrived I told them to let me know once they get into the door. All three have the same configuration: T7700, 4G Ram, WUXGA. I personally opened them up one by one. From the back of the sticker, it looks like they were made in Singapore.

I found some defects as soon as I opened up the first one. It looks like it has been rushed out of production and they didn't even put it together correctly. There is a gap between the left hand rest and the base. AND, once I pushed down the power button to boot up for the first time, it said the windows files are damaged and need to be repaired. Rescue and recover did the job correctly but it still takes about 15 mins before I can see the windows logo.

Then I opened up the rest of the two T61ps. These two seems to be better built, even better than the one I'm using right now.

Two points:
1. I'm so glad I didn't get the WUXGA for my personal laptop. It was much dimmer than the WSXGA. And the fine prints are killing my eyes. And I have 20/20 vision, but still uncomfortable reading those.
2. The build quality varies from one to the other. It all depends on your luck.

I don't have time to put them through 3DMark06 or BurnInTest to see if they have the same graphic problems yet. They will be used for data processing and some simulations. I will try to continue the testing tomorrow. Once I did, I will give you guys an update. The opportunity to get hands on some many T61P at the same time is hard to come by, I will put it into good use.

noder, no I don't know you or your capabilities, but I wrote "I'd bet that..." Maybe I would've lost, or, not.
Your comment "they could inform us on progress. but for now we stay uninformed" - no problem. Have you read through the forum and seen how many people Mark has directly tried to help? Reading his posts says to me; he's not here for the coke and popcorn. We also have to understand that he passes the information on and may himself not receive any immediate feedback, which is not the case when you read this thread from the start.

I'm not looking for an arguement, (and don't want to get modded for going off thread), but I found your previous post very confrontational.

Re: T61P Graphic problems--random shut down, BSOD, Crash

All,

We have continued to read the posts  here, and over on Thinkpads.

We have received  a system from a second volunteer  into product engineering this week and are working with him to try to recreate the symptoms .   I really hope we can make some definitive progress, and I'd ask that everyone keep in mind that having 2 memory modules installed is really about the only common element to all of your experiences.

Different bios levels, video drivers, directx 9 vs 10, memory brands, single vs double stacked memory modules, disabling speed step, disabling multicore..... all these things have been experimented with and have not produced a consistent set of experiences for everyone.   Even the exact symptom  reported varies - some blue screen, some spit out graphic artifacts, some reportedly power off.

This is not a 100% reproducible problem system to system.  As a result, it is taking some time to try to understand it.

I'll continue to provide updates as available, along with any requests to the group to test out a particular scenario.

I do understand your frustration.

Thanks for your help, and everything you have shared here.

I never said that Mark is doing something wrong - he is doing all the best .. imho the company is doing wrong - not any single man.. And yes - i red all posts on this thread.. but still - the issue should'nt ever happen when i had a dell lappy .. abt 5 yrs ago .. i bought it and there was issue with stability also - i called dell support - they told me "Sorry." and sent me a new laptop immediately. and i've returned my old lappy to the courier which bring me new lappy.. that's why i'll back to dell ..

FYI ,

I think most of us with the issue come to view this thread everyday.  I even have it as one of my tabbed homepages.

So, we do like to hear the updates...and what the solution will be.

I think if it can't be fixed without taking the laptops in for repair then....let us know if it that's the only way after all these tests.

I also run my system update everyday hoping for a fix to show up.

I suprised Lenovo technicians can't find this problem...since October.

Maybe they should check around and see if its a problem with other companies who have this board ?  or video card ?

Actually, removing one memory does not solve the problem completely, I can not play smoothly in warcraft III. But other games seems OK.

Anyone have the same experience in warcraft III?
