Re: T61P Graphic problems--random shut down, BSOD, Crash

Hi,

I have been experiencing serious random shutdowns with my Thinkpad T60 laptop for 7-8 months. I have tried reinstalling OS, updated all software and drivers, but it all did not help. It shut downs itself every time I run application (s) that consume above everage amount of resources. For instance, today when I started converting rtf file to pdf, laptop did shut down.

Does anyone has any idea about how to solve this problem?

Hey Bender,

How are you doing?
Can you please tell me what are the symptons you were having??

Just to be sure we have the same problem, because my computer can run 3DMark03 without any problem, but give me a BSOD when surfing the internet!!!!

I am now downloading 3Dmark06 and PC Mark Vantage to double check.

My problem is BSOD: Memory parity error....something like this.

Hi,

Just checking back on this thread.   Our investigation could benefit from having another system that reliably exhibits these symtoms with 2 memory modules present.   I'm looking for another volunteer in the US that would be willing to send in their machine to product engineering for repair instead of normal service processes.

Any volunteers?

Thanks!

Hi, everyone - I'm typing on a keyboard now -  I want to point out that Mark_Lenovo stepped up to the plate to help resolve this. - I had a new TP61P CTO with 4G and Nvidia 570 that would shut down or BSOD as soon as I did anything graphic intensive. This was a new computer out of the box with Vista Ultimate 32b.  Apparently it's not the memory but rather the planar card.  Anyway I haven't had random shutdowns or reboots since.  I'm still testing to make sure it can take over from my Compaq Evo N610C as my work companion.

Thanks Mark and Lenovo -

Hi,

Add me to the list. I’ve been experiencing the exact same problems as everyone here, minus the BSOD. Random power-offs, weird artifacts (major tearing), and complete system freezes when utilizing 3D graphics. Just received my box today for return to EasyServ (Solectron) to try and get a new motherboard (seems to be the best solution), but I am also willing to send the product to North Carolina to try and isolate the problem(s).

T61P 6459-CTO, 2 x 1GB RAM, Quadro 570M, 15.4" WUXGA, Intel 4965AGN 802.11a/b/g/n, Windows XP Pro 32bit

BurnInTest reproduces the problem (though the time varies) - a complete power-off, artifacts, or a freeze. Tried all the different BIOS versions, driver versions, etc. The only thing that reliably fixes the problem is to remove 1 memory chip.

Hello Mark (Lenovo),

I'm in the UK, would it be of any benefit (maybe to the UK group)?

I do have a ticket open...

best regards,
andrea

Bender

Thanks!

Jerrybee -

sent you a PM to get your serial # so we can order the right parts.   I can email you shipping labels since you already have the depot box.

Abarbieri -

Thanks for your kind offer - please let us know about your repair status.   While UK has great service facilities, the engineering group I'm presently working with in the US, is located here at our North American head quarters, in Morrisville, NC.

International shipments (with customs) and added transit times would really slow down your repair if I tried to bring your system here I am afraid.  We have certainly benefited from your comments in this thread though !
