Re: T61P Graphic problems--random shut down, BSOD, Crash

Hi guys,

here's a little update.

I just got a new memory module from lenovo (same brand as the original build in ones - the second module i bougt from lenovo was a different vendor). If needed I can post the infos...

First it seemed all is good now. But after a few hours the problem occured again. The intersting part is, that with DreamScene activated, the system would even work for up to ~5 hours. So that is a massive stability improvement - no solution though...

Keep up the investigative work Mark!!!
We are counting on you ;)

Greetings

Hi! Newbie here (new to the forum, that is)

I've been pondering ordering a T61p with the 570m graphics card (14.1" normal screen) as a replacement for my ol' T42 (which is "supposedly" in the shop getting a new motherboard - but Lenovo doesn't quite know where the computer is and when it will get fixed "if they have it" - alas, that's a different story).

Then I came upon this site while researching the T61p.... and now I'm reading about all these problems with TP's with the FX570M cards.

Is this BSOD/shutdown/crash issue only affecting systems with the FX570M running Vista (32 and/or 64)? or is this also with XP as well? Is this "behaviour" also endemic to the NVS 140M card-carrying TP?

Doesn't sound very promising....

:smileymad:

From what I've read it affects all OSes down to Linux.
I've only tested it on both Vista 32 and 64.

Does this problem affect systems with the FX570M only or NVS 140M as well?

Secondly, are the systems affected whether or not the "Intel Turbo" memory is installed or not?

Quite disconcerting!

Hey,

I've had this problem since I've received my system about three months ago. I've read a good amount of this thread but I am still a little confused. Is there a solution to this problem and what is it? Should I be sending my Thinkpad out to get fixed and how do I go about doing so? One of the reasons I bought a Thinkpad was because of its reputation, however I am kind of regretting that I didn't go with someone else. Whats happening is somewhat unacceptable to me, I've paid a lot of money for this machine and it is not performing as it should.

Well, based on what I've read here and elsewhere, there are two possibilities for solving the problems:
1) removal of 1 RAM module
2) motherboard replacement

However, no one seems quite certain whether this problem is software related (BIOS, drivers, etc) or if this is a hardware problem (video card, motherboard, chipset, etc). Some report removal of 1 RAM module does not solve the issue, others state that the problem continues to affect their system even after motherboard replacement. Quite baffling.

I, for one, have put off purchasing the T6x indefinitely for this reason (as well other reasons), not quite willing to spend that much for regrets.

Hi, if you read Bender's thread - the random shutdowns (vista) and BSOD (XP) was not solved by the removal of memory chips or the replacement of memory chips.  Nor was it solved by motherboard replacement or BIOS upgrade/downgrade or hard drive reformatting.    *********** It was solved by a planar card replacement ************

I should have clarified this in my first post, I only have issues with the screen freezing when I play video games. I've downgraded to XP and I have the newest BIOS. Did replacing the motherboard or any other part fix this. Also, are the newer thinkpads having this issue, ones purchased within the last month or so?

Bender,

I thought motherboard is the same as planar card or is it a different concept?
