Re: T61P Graphic problems--random shut down, BSOD, Crash

2008-03-03, 23:55 PM
Same here. I'm also still waiting and hoping, that maybe I can avoid sending my laptop in for repair and not having it for work for several days. It would be great to get some feedback/update on what the Lenovo reps recommend we should do...
Thanks in advance!

Re: T61p shuts down when playing games

I have 2GB of memory 1gb + 1gb.

Is the only way to test if I have the issue done by removing one of the RAM sticks?

I guess I should add that I've done pc-doctor tests.  The DOS version fails when it tests "Nvidia" and returns an error code.  But, the Windows version passes all the graphic tests.

I also ran 3DMark06 twice and did not have any issues.  I ran burnintest for about 5 minutes with the 3D and CPU test set to 100 and didn't have any issues with that either.

The only problem I have is when I try to play a game (World of Warcraft or Bioshock) the machine shutsdown randomly.  No other problems besides that so far.

I am still waiting. The UK repair center seems not as quick as US. But I have got a email saying it was on the final test. Hope it could be back soon.

You need to run the burnIn only for 3D test at max resolution and fullscreen. If the problem were the same, the system would probably crash within 15 mins.

I would like to know if this is an issue that Lenovo is aware about.  If I call tech support will they be knowledgeable with the issue and know what to do?  Or will they not know what the issue is and worse case tell me to send my laptop in anyway and not fix it or try to fix it blindly potentially making things worse or creating new issues?

Just some confidence that they know what's going on and know how to take care and fix machines with this issue would be a great help.

Hi, This is what Bender sent in 2nd time around.  It got fixed.  Please feel free to use it.
I included it in a word document with details and case history.  I also placed the image on
the laptop lid and inside on the keyboard.

Bender,

That is a classic!   I'm sure you made some tech's day right there. :smileyvery-happy:

Webdtc,

If you want to avoid service at this point, substituting a single 2 GB dimm for the 1+1 will most likely resolve your troubles.

All,

On a more relevant note, progress has been made through testing of the units we have received it.   Engineering has recreated the symptoms successfully and understands the underlying cause, and are testing the fix.

I hope to have a more technical / detailed update late this week.

Thanks.

Thank you Mark for your help.  It's awesome that the forums are actually monitored and that Lenovo actively participates in the conversations.  I think everyone appreciates it.

Any official advice or resoltuion would be so great!  I'm looking forward to more info.  Even if it were "Send your laptop in for depot repair" it least I'd know that Lenovo knows what the issue is and that there's a definite resolution other than sending it in and hoping for the best.

Unfortunately I don't have a 2gb dimm available.  If I did I'd switch it out but eventually I'd probably want to use both dimms unless 4gb is supported in 1 dimm in the future :P

Hello  Mark_Lenovo

this is great news.

I got my T61p repaired by the UK service centre few weeks ago and after the motherboard swap in practice I've never experienced the past issues when using the same applications.

I got bold and installed NWN2 (NeverWinterNights 2). I do experience very infrequent game crashes/lookups but I believe this is due to the game itself (a bit buggy) rather than the platform (well waiting for Vista SP1 too).

Really interested to know what the underlying cause is :)
many thanks for persevering with this issue.
